04 Jul From Value Chain Resilience to Responsible Technological Solutions: Unlocking the EU By-Product Potential through Innovative Processing & Recycling
Raw Materials Week 2025 – Side Event by SCRREEN & PROMETIA
Date: 17 November 2025
Time: 14:00 – 18:00
Location: La Plaza Hotel, Brussels
Hosted by: SCRREEN & PROMETIA
Followed by: Cocktail reception
Europe is facing a pivotal moment in the transition towards a more sustainable, digital, and climate-resilient future. Central to this transition is the strategic importance of critical raw materials (CRMs), many of which are currently discarded or underutilized as by-products in extractive and metallurgical operations. With mounting demand and geopolitical uncertainties, Europe must explore innovative solutions to tap into its underused material streams.
That’s the mission behind thisl side event, hosted during Raw Materials Week 2025, where SCRREEN and PROMETIA will convene experts, researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers to tackle one pressing question:
A Strategic Imperative: The CRM Act
The Critical Raw Materials Act (CRM Act) sets ambitious targets for the European Union to strengthen its autonomy and reduce dependency on third countries. By 2030, the EU aims to:
- Produce at least 40% of its annual CRM consumption domestically
- Cover 25% of its CRM needs through recycling and circular solutions
To meet these goals, rethinking value chains is no longer optional—it’s a necessity. By-products from mining and refining processes, often discarded or treated as waste, could hold the key to unlocking Europe’s raw material resilience.
What to Expect at the Event
This side event will be a dynamic and forward-thinking session, bringing together diverse perspectives to explore:
- Responsible and innovative approaches to by-product recovery in mineral processing and extractive metallurgy
- Policy frameworks and EU initiatives supporting value chain transformation
- Success stories and research results that demonstrate scalable solutions
- Opportunities for cross-sector collaboration between industry, academia, and government
Whether you are a stakeholder in resource management, sustainability, or industrial innovation, this event is designed to provide actionable insights and fresh perspectives to help you navigate the future of raw materials in Europe.
Why Attend?
- Learn how innovative recycling and processing technologies are reshaping the extractive sector
- Engage with experts working on cutting-edge projects in CRM recovery
- Contribute to the dialogue on how to make European value chains more circular and resilient
- Discover how your organisation can support and benefit from the CRM Act goals
- Network with peers at the cocktail reception following the session
