PROMETIA Tech Tour 2026: Call for Applications Now Open

The PROMETIA Tech Tours are back in 2026, offering a unique opportunity for early-career professionals to explore Europe’s raw materials sector from the inside.

From 15 to 19 June 2026, the next edition will take place in Germany, bringing participants to the heart of one of Europe’s historic and innovative mining regions.

What is the Tech Tour about?

The PROMETIA Tech Tour is an immersive, hands-on learning experience designed to connect young researchers and engineers with key actors across the raw materials value chain. Participants will gain exclusive access to leading research centres, industrial sites, and mining operations.

The 2026 programme (tentative) includes visits to:

  • Freiberg University of Mining and Technology, a leading technical university in Germany specializing in geosciences, natural resources, and mining engineering.
  • Helmholtz Institute Freiberg for Resource Technology, a cutting-edge research institute focused on developing sustainable technologies for resource extraction and recycling
  • Silver mine Freiberg Reiche Zeche, a former silver mine now used as an experimental and educational site for mining research and training
  • Befesa Zinc Freiberg, an industrial facility specialized in recycling steel dust to produce zinc and recover valuable metals.
  • GEOS, a research and engineering center focused on subsurface modeling and energy and environmental geoscience applications
  • Zinnwald mine, a strategic mining project aimed at extracting lithium in Europe to support the energy transition and battery production
  • Mining museum Altenberg, a museum showcasing the history of local mining and traditional techniques, with access to former underground workings

Through site visits, expert exchanges, and networking opportunities, the Tech Tour provides a comprehensive overview of innovation and sustainability in the raw materials sector.

Who can apply and how?

The participation is reserved to PROMETIA members and restricted to PhD students, postdocs, young engineers or researchers in the early stages of their careers (< 3 years).

Please note that participation is limited to 20 attendees, ensuring a high-quality and interactive experience.

Application deadline : Application must be submitted before 23 April 2026 through the dedicated platform. PROMETIA members should check their inboxes for the exclusive application link. Applications will be reviewed, and selected participants will be notified by the end of April.

Practical information: Participants are responsible for arranging and covering their travel to Freiberg. Once on site, accommodation, local transport, and programme-related costs will be covered by PROMETIA
