PROMETIA’s Impact at IRTC 2024: Empowering the Next Generation OF RESEARCHERS

In February, PROMETIA took part in the International Round Table on Materials Criticality (IRTC) 2024 in Turin as a sponsor. At this important conference, which brought together researchers, experts and industry representatives from 35 countries, PROMETIA not only supported the event itself, but also the participation of four promising young researchers from the PROMETIA member community. By sponsoring Dandara Ataide Salvador, Clément LASKAR, Louise Leray and Alexandra Roa Torres, PROMETIA has demonstrated its commitment to supporting the next generation of researchers while bringing fresh ideas to the ongoing dialogue on critical raw materials.

PROMETIA President, Stéphane Bourg, actively participated in the opening panel of IRTC24, representing both the EU-funded project SCRREEN and PROMETIA. His involvement, under the chairmanship of Claudia Baranzelli from OECD-OCDE, emphasized PROMETIA’s leadership in shaping discussions on critical raw materials.

PROMETIA sponsored four talented young researchers for participation in the conference:

  • Dandara Ataide Salvador, engineer at Geological Survey of Finland (GTK).
  • Clément Laskar, postdoctoral researcher at Laboratoire de Génie Chimique Toulouse & Chemical Engineering Research Centre of Toulouse.
  • Louise Leray, research scientist specializing in regulations and energy transition resources at CEA I-Tésé.
  • Alexandra Roa Torres, PhD Student from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, focusing on REE recovery from acid mine waters.

PROMETIA’s team contributed actively to the dynamic exchange, fostering discussions on international collaborations, industry strategies, and demand reductions. The diverse participation of young and seasoned researchers, alongside industry professionals from 35 different countries, brought forth a rich tapestry of perspectives. The conference explored crucial questions, including the right balance between international collaborations and domestic production efforts, the optimal combination of market and government solutions, and the industrial policies that nations should pursue.
