TOS effectively identifies the source of sampling variability and provides valuable solutions for minimising each source of sampling uncertainty. \nThe aim of WCSB11 is to invite and encourage the diverse international sampling community to adopt and disseminate the concepts and ideas for a standardized approach to sampling embodied in the TOS. The Conference will also offer a forum for fruitful discussions between statisticians committed to ‘Measurement of Uncertainty’ (MU) and proponents of the TOS by offering a unifying foundation for development of better and more general standards. While the Theory of Sampling had its historical origins in the mining industry\, today it also applies to sampling of a broad range of bulk materials\, minerals\, agricultural raw materials and products\, the food\, feed\, and pharmaceutical industries\, as well as sampling for environmental applications. A key theme will be bridging longstanding focus areas like conflict financing risks with the opportunities for enhancing the sector’s contribution to sustainable development through the increasing strategic profile of transition minerals. \nMain Forum sessions will take place on Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 May 2024\, with partner-led sessions organised that same week on 21-24 May 2024. \nWe invite partners in mineral producing and processing countries to organise local Forum hubs to promote dialogue around the event on due diligence implementation in specific contexts. DESCRIPTION:The European Union (EU) aims to reduce its dependence on a few countries for critical raw materials needed in sectors like e-mobility\, batteries\, and renewable energy. To achieve self-sufficiency\, the EU is focusing on exploring and mining these resources in its own territory\, even if they’re by-products of other mining activities. This shift requires innovative exploration methods and tools. \nTo address these challenges\, 13 EU-funded raw materials projects\, along with the University of Queensland\, are organizing the “European Union SuperCluster Lapland Geoconference” in Rovaniemi\, Finland\, on October 30th and 31st\, 2023. The event aims to bring together stakeholders\, including the European Commission\, regional authorities\, industry representatives\, and exploration companies\, to discuss technological challenges in the raw materials sector. \nThe SuperCluster event precedes the 14th Fennoscandian Exploration and Mining (FEM) 2023 conference in Levi\, Finland\, which is one of Europe’s largest mining industry events. The SuperCluster event is expected to have around 100 participants\, with a focus on EU-funded projects. The conference offers oral sessions\, poster presentations\, and discussions\, with no keynote talks\, and it’s free of charge\, including lunches and a conference dinner for registered participants. \n  \nMore information can be found here.

HydroMetEC is a lifelong learning program supported by the EIT Raw Materials academy\, coordinated by NTNU\, whose objective is to educate engineers from industry\, scientists at RTOs\, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate students about hydrometallurgy. \n\n\n\nThe HydroMetEC advanced course will focus on the following topics: \n\n\n\n\nMass and energy balance in hydrometallurgy\nKinetics and thermodynamics in hydrometallurgy\nApplications\n\n\n\n\nThe course will also include a visit to Monolothios PGM recycling and catalyst production facilities.
